Desert Island Discs has been on air on BBC Radio 4 since 1942. Each week, the most exciting guests are invited to share their life stories with the hosts.
On the show, the guests are usually referred to as 'Castaways'. They share the eight tracks, a book and a luxury they would take to a desert island. On a desert island, you must think wisely about what to take there. So you know they are talking about their favourite things and sounds. There are some quite relaxed rules, though: the eight tracks are not necessarily songs but can be recordings or any other audio form, making the choice even more enjoyable.
The conversations you will listen to here are intimate and honest, making Desert Island Discs a great way to know your favourite personalities better, as the castaways always discuss their lives and the reasons behind most of their choices.
